The National Conference To End Factory Farming
Farm Sanctuary began as a small, all-volunteer organization in 1986, but in the last quarter century has grown to be the largest farm animal protection organization in the United States. Its mission to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education, and advocacy efforts has resonated with hundreds of thousands of supporters.
This past October, the organization hosted The National Conference to End Factory Farming in Arlington, Virginia, the first conference of its kind. The event was an exciting and huge success, drawing over 40 prominent speakers and over 350 environmental and animal welfare activists. Farm Sanctuary made sure that the whole conference was captured on videotape. The video of all the workshops and the key note speakers will be available at no charge on line.
And that's where HAVE came in. From early on in the organization's life we've had the privilege of helping Farm Sanctuary with their video editing and duplication. For this conference, we had the honor of assembling and editing over 20 hours of compelling presentations by conference speakers, and creating web files and resource DVD's for legacy distribution.
The speakers included Joel Fuhrman (MD), John Mackey (CEO of Whole Foods), Michael Greger (MD), Wenonah Hauter (Food and Water Watch), Kyle Ash (Greenpeace), Martha Noble (National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition), and Erica Meier (Compassion Over Killing). Congressman James P. Moran and TIME Magazine senior writer Bryan Walsh were also on hand for keynote presentations.
Topics included public health, farm animal sentience, waste management, mismanaged resources and climate change, the treatment of farm animals, the economics of factory farming, the rise of factory farming on a global scale, legal advocacy and the current US farm bill, creating change in the marketplace, convergent movements, consumer awareness, and plant-based living.
