Customer Stories - Sondra Loring

Master Yoga Teacher Sondra Loring has always had a gift for movement. A professional dancer from an early age, her career led her to begin meditation and somatic study at age 20. She was quickly enamored with the practices, and while on tour took an Ashtanga yoga prep class. Back in NYC she met Eddie Stern, who was one of the foremost students of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (the founder of Ashtanga yoga) and who led Sondra to become his student as well.Sadhana Center for Yoga Logo

Her studies with Stern and others led her to a career as a yoga teacher - she had been a dance instructor for some time, so the transition was an easy one for her. After moving to the Hudson Valley, Sondra opened the Sadhana Center for Yoga and Meditation in Hudson in 2003. Her classes focus on a graceful flow of movement, a friendly atmosphere, and individuality of students (while still retaining a strong sense of community).

Sondra at the Center

Always one to challenge herself, Sondra returned to India in 2008 to study vedic chanting with M.A. Jayashree and yoga therapy at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. Today, in addition to the Sadhana center, she is co-director of Satya Yoga Center in Rhinebeck and Catskill with Jessie Lee Montague. She leads a variety of classes as well as yoga teacher trainings, and continues her studies by finding inspiration in the Yoga Sutras, the Gita, and books on meditation. Her greatest inspiration, however, comes from her own students, who she encourages to develop their own practices.

Sondra has recently started creating CDs to help her reach an even wider audience, and HAVE is proud of the work we do with her. Our duplication work means that she has more time to focus on her students, her center, and her own education - the things that truly move her. To find out more about the Sadhana Center for Yoga and Meditation, visit sadhanayogahudson.com. Information on how to obtain a copy of her first CD, Sadhana and now her latest CD, Mapping A Practice, is available under "Books and Products to Support Practice" on their links page.
